A fifth grade student in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to hold out a mass taking pictures, authorities stated.
In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office mentioned it had realized earlier that day of a "threatening text message" despatched by a student at an elementary faculty.
It said its local faculty threat enforcement crew was immediately notified and began investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written risk to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's workplace stated.
In video shared by authorities, the boy could be seen being led into a police car.
“This pupil’s conduct is sickening, especially after the current tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno mentioned in a statement, noting that the risk came simply days after the lethal faculty shooting at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 college students and two lecturers dead.
“Right now shouldn't be the time to act like slightly delinquent. It’s not funny,” he said. “This child made a fake risk, and now he’s experiencing actual consequences.”

The comment got here as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 college taking pictures after it came to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup as a substitute of instantly transferring in on the gunman.
