Speaking in the dugout of the Nice American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler stated, "I don't plan on popping out for the anthem going ahead till I feel better about the path of our nation."

I wish that I could have demonstrated what I realized from my dad, that once you're dissatisfied together with your country, you let it be identified via protest. The home of the brave ought to encourage this."
