Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech giant stated its iconic music participant has been changed by other units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, mentioned: "In the present day, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have built-in an incredible music experience across all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with support for spatial audio - there is not any higher technique to enjoy, uncover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the first MP3 player that would hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a complete new category of digital music participant that permits you to put your total music assortment in your pocket and hearken to it wherever you go," he said on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same again."

Similar MP3 gamers released by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success because the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 variations of its music player - the Basic, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod range lately, with cell phone know-how enabling customers to listen to music services on their phones.

In 2014, the basic click on wheel mannequin was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano were killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod touch was the one model still on sale in the present day.

With out the iPod, there would never have been an iPhone or iPod, in keeping with its inventor Tony Fadell.
