Casey White manhunt ends in Indiana, confederate Vicky White dies, police say – KIRO 7 News Seattle

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Alabama fugitive Casey White was taken into custody in Indiana, and his suspected accomplice, Vicky White, died Monday evening from accidents sustained by a self-inflicted gunshot wound as authorities ready to arrest the pair, regulation enforcement sources confirmed.

Update 9:25 p.m. EDT Might 9: Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding confirmed Vicky White’s death to The Associated Press simply after 9 p.m. EDT Monday. Earlier in the night, Wedding characterized Vicky White’s self-inflicted injuries as “very critical” following a police pursuit and rollover crash.

Original report: Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton mentioned the two fugitives, who aren't associated, had been caught close to Evansville, Indiana, after a chase with U.S. Marshals, The Related Press reported.

“Casey White and Vicky White are in custody,” Singleton mentioned. “This has ended a really long and nerve-racking and challenging week and a half. It ended the way in which that we knew it could. They're in custody.”

Casey White is now charged with escape, and Vicky White is charged with allowing/aiding an escape, identification theft and second-degree forgery, AL.com reported.

Vicky White was a jail officer on the prison that was holding Casey White, who was awaiting trial for capital homicide. Inmates and officers stated that they had a “special relationship,” the AP reported.

The pair had been on the run since April 29 when the 56-year-old jailer told the Lauderdale County Detention Heart in Florence, Alabama, that she was transporting the 38-year-old inmate for a mental evaluation. As an alternative, they fled.

In keeping with WAAY-TV, the fugitives had been captured after a pursuit ended when the car they had been driving crashed.

In response to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff, the police pursuit began when the couple was noticed near the sheriff’s workplace and resulted in a rollover crash close to Evansville Regional Airport, WXIN reported.

Casey White surrendered to police following the crash.

Sheriff Dave Wedding ceremony of Vanderburgh County Indiana confirmed to WXIN that Vicky White’s accidents are serious and had been self-inflicted when she shot herself at some point throughout or at the end of the pursuit.

Wedding ceremony also confirmed to the TV station that Vicky White was driving the Cadillac the fugitives had been in on the time of the crash. Singleton had previously reported Casey White as the driving force and the crashed automobile as a Ford F-150.

According to AL.com, U.S. Marshals were notified Sunday evening that a 2006 Ford F-150 had been found at an Evansville automobile wash.

“This escape was clearly well-planned and calculated. Numerous preparation went into this. They had loads of sources, had tags, had autos. They'd the whole lot they wanted to pull this off,” Singleton mentioned during a Monday night press conference.

“We bought a dangerous man off the road at present. He is by no means going to see the light of day again, and that’s a great thing, not just for our group however that’s a good thing for this country,” he added.

Evansville is about 175 miles north of Williamson County, Tennessee, where authorities on Thursday discovered the orange 2007 Ford Edge the pair used of their April 29 escape, the information outlet reported.
