Taliban chief orders women to wear all-covering burqa in public: Decree

Afghanistan’s supreme chief and Taliban chief on Saturday ordered the country’s ladies to wear the all-covering burqa in public - one of many harshest controls imposed on girls’s lives for the reason that Taliban seized power.

“They need to put on a chadori (head-to-toe burqa) as it's traditional and respectful,” said a decree issued by Hibatullah Akhundzada that was launched by Taliban authorities at a function in Kabul.

“Those girls who will not be too old or young should cover their face, besides the eyes, as per sharia directives, in an effort to keep away from provocation when meeting males who will not be mahram (adult close male family),” the decree said.

It added that if girls had no essential work exterior it was “better they keep at home.”

During their first regime between 1996 and 2001, the Taliban imposed related restrictions on girls.
