Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the mother or father within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the father or mother within the leg.

The school had early launch and college students were released on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In keeping with police, the parent, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by accident shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The college district mentioned White was inside the constructing, close to the foyer space, and never in the hallway near college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officials said there was no threat made and the father or mother did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or employees have been injured. The parent was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Within the two days for the reason that Uvalde mass faculty shooting, there have been five circumstances in North Texas associated to weapons introduced to schools or threats made.

Arlington mother and father stated their minds instantly considered the worst after they have been notified.

No mother or father ever needs there to be a cause for them to get a textual content message saying their kid's school is on lockdown.

But since this week's lethal shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not help but assume the worst after they do.

"After I received the textual content message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to occur.’ I used to be shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed said.

While most instances, lockdowns are only drills college students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that realizing what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I started seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our trainer obtained a notification on their phone saying someone was within the building," he said.

Weapons usually are not allowed on faculty property, and fogeys FOX 4 spoke with said even if it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to school, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to happen, however you by no means want to be the one statistic. What if it's your children?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington faculty and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a school capturing, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to highschool within the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his college.

"If something occurred, you’ve bought to run anyplace that’s safe and conceal," she informed her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to speak politics, Mitchell mentioned something must be performed now. 

"They wish to talk about it, they wish to campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to really go any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
