Dad or mum with hid weapon by chance shoots self while at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the guardian in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

The college had early launch and students were released on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

According to police, the dad or mum, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by accident shot himself. His injury was not serious.

The varsity district mentioned White was contained in the constructing, close to the lobby area, and never within the hallway close to students when the gun went off.

Police and school officials stated there was no threat made and the mum or dad did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or workers had been injured. The dad or mum was taken to an area hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

In the two days for the reason that Uvalde mass college shooting, there have been 5 cases in North Texas related to guns introduced to varsities or threats made.

Arlington parents stated their minds immediately thought of the worst when they were notified.

No mum or dad ever desires there to be a purpose for them to get a text message saying their kid's faculty is on lockdown.

But since this week's lethal shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot assist but suppose the worst when they do.

"When I received the textual content message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to happen.’ I used to be shocked," father or mother Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most times, lockdowns are solely drills students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that figuring out what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I started seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our instructor got a notification on their phone saying somebody was in the constructing," he said.

Guns should not allowed on college property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with said even when it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to high school, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you never need to be the one statistic. What if it's your children?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve received twin six-year-olds that go to a special Arlington faculty and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a school capturing, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to school in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his school.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve got to run wherever that’s safe and hide," she instructed her baby.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too fresh to talk politics, Mitchell said one thing needs to be completed now. 

"They need to talk about it, they wish to campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t want to really pass any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
