Mike Tyson will not face fees in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district attorney says

A California district legal professional declined to file charges Tuesday against former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police experiences and movies of the April 20 incident. Both the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no fees be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office concluded its assessment of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery against one other passenger on an airplane while ready on the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe stated in a statement.

"Our resolution is that we will not file any charges in opposition to Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embody the conduct of the sufferer leading as much as the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of both the sufferer and Mr. Tyson that no expenses be filed in this case," Wagstaffe stated.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, showing to attempt to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson mentioned the particular person was harassing Tyson. The video didn't present what occurred before the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the decision to not file expenses by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and regulation enforcement businesses "for their cautious, diligent, and professional work."
