A California district attorney declined to file costs Tuesday towards former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.
San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police reports and movies of the April 20 incident. Both the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no prices be filed.
"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Legal professional’s Workplace concluded its review of the case involving Mike Tyson on the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery against another passenger on an airplane while ready at the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe stated in a statement.
"Our choice is that we are going to not file any prices towards Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embody the conduct of the sufferer main as much as the incident, the interaction between Mr. Tyson and the sufferer, in addition to the requests of each the victim and Mr. Tyson that no expenses be filed in this case," Wagstaffe said.
The case is now closed.
Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, showing to try to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson said the particular person was harassing Tyson. The video didn't present what occurred before the altercation.
David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file fees by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and legislation enforcement businesses "for their careful, diligent, and professional work."
