Talking within the dugout of the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler said, "I don't plan on popping out for the anthem going ahead till I feel higher in regards to the path of our country."
In a weblog post, Kapler questioned whether the country's leadership is committed to representing its individuals's best pursuits and whether or not america is really "the land of the free and the home of the courageous.""We weren't given bravery, and we aren't free. We aren't free when politicians determine that the lobbyist and gun industries are extra important than our children's freedom to go to high school while not having bulletproof backpacks and energetic shooter drills," Kapler wrote.
Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he referred to as "the shortage of supply of the promise of what our nationwide anthem represents."
"I am not okay with the state of this country. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I want that I could have demonstrated what I discovered from my dad, that when you're dissatisfied together with your country, you let it's identified by means of protest. The house of the brave ought to encourage this."
